Free Standing Patio HeatersThere was a time when this was the only style of patio heater available and you had a choice of one colour - Green. However, times have changed and there are now several styles of free standing patio heaters. The overall basics are the same and there are very few differences in the size, most free standing patio heaters are approx 2.2 metres in height. They all use the same standard propane bottle gas and require similar regulators. This allows a heat output of approx 6 - 12.5 kw. Free standing patio heaters do vary the size of the canopy, this is the top part of the patio heater and varies in diameter. The average patio heater heats an area of upto 22 square metres which is more than adequate in keeping the chill at bay on an average patio or deck. Patio heaters are designed to be moved around hence all come with wheels to the rear of the base. You do however have to lift the heater slightly to engage the wheels. They average patio heater weighs in at 30 kilos, ensuring that it is not blown over. All patio heaters come with an ignition system much like your household boiler, so there is no messing around with naked flames. They are also equipped with a safety cut off switch should your patio heater get knocked over. The most common colours for patio heaters are Green, Blue, Black, White and Stainless Steel. Many of the market entry level patio heater designs dont have the patio gas bottle in a metal cover but simply use a fabric cover. These fabric covers do now come in many different colours and are a useful way of co-ordinating your outdoor patio furniture.
New Patio Heater Advancements Like all gadgets and appliances, the patio heater is constantly being upgraded to ensure that we keep buying them, whether for the first time or as repalcements. Light Many new patio heaters now come with the additon of a light . This is built into the unit and is located just under the heater part itself but as high up the shaft as possible. The light itself is gas powered so there is no messing with electrics or batteries. The light given off is not exceptionally bright, but just enough to add to ambience of your evening. Patio heaters with a light are still slightly more expensive than those without. Foot Warmer. Another nice touch to the heater is the addition of a foot warmer. This is simply another vent at the base of the patio heater allowing heat to circulate around your feet. As hot air rises it also heats your lower body. Table Attachment. Some free standing patio heaters are now designed to fit into specific tables, much like the old fashioned patio parasol. This is a great idea as it ensures all your guests benefit from the patio heater as it is in the middle. With certain designs you also get a lazy suzzane attached to aid entertaining. You are also able to purchase small table attachments for your patio heater allowing a platform for resting drinks/nibbles etc. Tilt Action. Certain patio heaters are now being designed where the top of the patio heater swivels. This tilt action is great for directing the heat onto specific areas or people. A useful touch if your guests dont all feel the cold ! Telescopic Shafts. Patio heaters with telescopic shafts are now available. This is a great idea as it allows you to alter the height of your patio heater, making it more efficient espeacially when you and your guest are all sitting. Patio Heater Cover. In order to keep your patio heater in pristine condition, it is worth investing in a patio heater cover. This is a simple nylon or plastic cover that you put directly over your patio heater. This is useful if you arent able to store your patio heater in a garage or other garden outbuilding over the winter months when there are longer periods of your patio heater not being used.
